Organic farming, for public consultation in the EU
25 Sep 2020
In September, the European Commission opened a new public consultation on the challenges and opportunities for the development of organic production and consumption in the EU.
The consultation, open until November 27, will be taken into account by the Commission for the preparation of its Action Plan on Organic Agriculture that will be presented in the first quarter of 2021. In the Farm to Table Strategy and the Biodiversity Strategy, published in May 2020, the Commission committed to making 25% of agricultural land in the EU under organic farming in order to improve the sustainability of the food system and reverse the loss of biodiversity.
To this end, the Commission will prepare an Action Plan to support the organic sector and help Member States to stimulate both supply and demand for organic products, as well as to ensure consumer confidence. To complete this action plan with information, it was launched on September 4 and will be open until November 27.
As for the new Regulation on organic production, it has delayed its entry into force from January 1 of next year to January 1, 2022
