Taiwan signs organic equivalency agreements with the United States and Canada

Both agreements entered into force on May 30, 2020 and will allow increasing the range of organic products available to consumers.
These agreements allow the recognition of organic quality in each territory. United States recognizing Taiwan and Taiwan recognizing the United States and Canada recognizing Taiwan and Taiwan recognizing Canada.
Given the situation of the global Covid-19 pandemic and the limitations for international travel, the agreement between Taiwan and Canada is provisional and is valid until May 30, 2021. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency plans for the future conduct an on-site assessment and finalize the equivalence determination.
Thus, both commitments will further facilitate the import and export of organic food products between Taiwan and both North American countries by reducing the costs of industry certification and administrative processes, thereby increasing the range of organic products available to consumers.
