GMP – Good Manufacturing Practices


Good Manufacturing Practices are focused on sanitary conditions and requirements for food production, packaging, storage and distribution in a suitable and safe way for human consumption.

This Certification involves both raw materials and the operating way of the facility. It considers the company’s structure, hygiene, staff, storage and transport of raw materials and final product. The control of processes and documents are also verified.

The importance of the GMP certification is that it grants the product a value-added guarantee. The audit by a third party helps create a bond of trust, security, guarantee and commitment between producers, suppliers and consumers.

The situation regarding equipment, cleaning, disinfection and issues present in the Argentine food code is evaluated in Mercosur Resolution 80/96.

Why is GMP certification important?

The GMP compliance is mandatory to all food manufacturing facilities that produce in the country. Also, GMP application is a pre-requirement for HACCP certification.

How is the GMP certification process?
  1. The process starts when the manufacturer meets OIA’s representatives to introduce his company.
  2. After the certification request and signature of contract between OIA and the producer, there is an exchange of documents and information as required by the GMP certification program.
  3. After the audit, an inspection report is made and there may or may not appear non-compliances.  The facility is certified after a positive report without non-compliances.
  4. Then, the cycle restarts for supervision.
